1. Good morning Cougs! Today is Thursday, October 10th. Today we celebrate World Mental Health Day! World Mental Health Day aims to spread awareness about mental health and the importance of looking after it! The day was created in 1992 to give everybody a chance to talk about mental health and emphasize how important it is to reach out if you’re struggling.
The Centers for Disease Control estimates that 1 in 5 children are diagnosed with a mental health disorder annually. Recent data shows that almost 10% of the student population is diagnosed with ADHD, 9% with anxiety, and 4% with depression.
At KPMS we have many supports for students who are struggling with mental health wellness. Please reach out to Mr. Sarsfield or Mrs. McCabe if you want to talk more about some of those supports.
2. This is a reminder that KPMS is a hate-free environment where all people, regardless of race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender, disability, national origin or ancestry are to be respected and celebrated. Words matter and character counts!
3. Speaking of words mattering…we are having our first all-school assembly this Monday, October 14th. A renowned national speaker, Justin Washington will be joining us to present on the Power of Words. We will start in 1st period on Monday and you will attend the assembly with your first period class. This is a formal assembly and expectations are that we show respect and engage fully with the presenter.
4. Our cross-country team put on an amazing display of effort, grit, and perseverance yesterday while hosting the meet at GHHS. Athletes continue to improve while posting personal records along the way. We are so proud of our student-athletes for their efforts both academically and athletically. Our soccer and volleyball teams take on the Roadrunners at Goodman today. Keep cheering on and encouraging our student-athletes as they represent Cougar Nation this season!
5. Drama club is canceled today, but all other clubs are running as scheduled.
6. Picture retakes are available in the library during lunch and honor time today. If you are getting retakes or did not get your school picture taken, please go to the library during lunch or honor time to get it taken.
Let's make it a great day and continue to display kindness and respect toward all members of our school community!
