4/9/25

1. Good morning Cougs! Today is Wednesday, April 9th. Today in recognition of Month of the Military Child, we recognize 8th grader Yamilee Ayala Rodriguez, whose mom is currently serving in the Army. Yamilee has lived in Hawaii, California as well as her time here and loves to remember the warm weather and beaches when our weather isn't the best. Her mom has deployed 3 times and Yamilee is always excited when she returns, to hear about the cool things she got to do.
2. This week we recognize and celebrate Volunteer Appreciation Week! We are so grateful for our volunteers and the way they give of their time and serve our school community. Our amazing PTSA and parent volunteers run our student store, fundraise, chaperone field trips, and organize and plan events that contribute to developing opportunities for students and families to remain connected. Thank you to our PTSA and all of our volunteers for supporting our school community!
3. Please continue to walk right and talk right while speaking at a level 1 volume in the halls. Keep cell phones and wireless headphones and earbuds stored away and out of sight for the entirety of the school day and keep getting to class on time, with your materials, and your backpacks stored in your locker. Thanks for exhibiting expected behavior and contributing positively to a school community we can be proud of. Words matter and character counts!
4. Please complete the March sense of belonging survey that is in your grade level schoology folders this week. Thank you for continuing to share your voice and shape our school culture and community!
5. A huge shoutout to Coach Tiner-Driscoll, Coach Rivera, and Coach Elligsen for their leadership and support over the soccer and basketball season. Today is the first day of Track and Field! Student athletes should meet their coaches in the gym after school. Also, there will be no practice tomorrow for the Social. Go Cougs!
6. The spring formal social is this Thursday and tickets will be on sale this week. Remember that tickets will not be sold at the door, so get them before Thursday.
7. PSD is excited to host the first annual Young Artist and Authors Showcase. This is an opportunity open to all middle school students in the district to express their creativity through the theme, "Friendship: The Heartbeat of Global Peace". This year's theme highlights the power of friendship to foster understanding, collaboration, and peace across borders. Submissions will be accepted in various mediums, including: visual arts, essays, poetry, and music. Your submission can be turned into your Art, ELA teachers, the main office, or an administrator up until April 11th. Submissions will be on display through May 2nd and be judged by district administrators and school board members in the library to determine 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place prize winners. Let's show off our creativity and promote friendship, understanding, collaboration, and peace!
8. This Friday is the end of Quarter 3. Quarter 4 begins when we return from Spring Break. Please take a look at your Quarter 4 schedule in PowerSchools prior to the Monday after break so you know your Quarter 4 schedule. All Quarter 3 grades will be updated by April 25th.
