Winter is coming… Be ready for schedule changes!

Hello PSD Families!

As we approach the winter season, it’s important to have plans in place for inclement weather.

When we get closer to snowy weather, we will send out the emergency bus routes for the year. These will be in place to ensure that our drivers are only using the safest, most reliable roads for travel in the snow. However, keep in mind that a school delay does not mean we will be using emergency bus routes. Here are some tips to make the ride to school easier for our families and our drivers.

Please try to ensure that your child is always 15 minutes early for pickup to ensure that our drivers get all children to school on time. They work hard to ensure that every child makes it to school promptly and ready to learn!

Also please remember to not block the bus loading/unloading zones, as we navigate the winter season. Particularly in the snow and ice, it will be important that we ensure everything runs as smoothly as possible.

When facing inclement weather, we will decide between a normal schedule, a late start, or school closures. Weather conditions may vary throughout the district, so on occasion delays will only affect certain schools, and other times delayed schedules or closures will affect the entire district. Safety is always the priority when modifying the school day, and we will work hard to ensure the absolute best for your child in every scenario.

Decisions are made based on various weather sources, neighboring districts, and the transportation department. We try to make decisions and communicate with families at 8 P.M the evening before, however please understand that this is not always possible. Decisions may change in the morning. We will communicate decisions with families through ParentSquare (phone, text, email), our PSD website, social media, and local TV/radio stations.

There are a couple benefits to late start modifications, such as extra monitoring for changing conditions, additional time for transportation staff to adjust snow routes, and ensured daylight for our bus drivers.

We will stay vigilant in the upcoming season to keep our staff and students safe, and we appreciate your efforts to keep every student safe, #InspiredAndEmpowered! Thank you, parents, for your continued support and understanding.
