1. Good morning, Cougs! Today is Tuesday, September 23rd. As we continue recognizing and celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month, did you know that baseball legend Roberto Clemente from Puerto Rico was not only a Hall of Famer but also known for his kindness and humanitarian work. Today, in recognition of Suicide Prevention Awareness Month, it is important to remember that sometimes, writing your thoughts down in a journal or notebook can help you process your feelings and make things feel more manageable.
2. Please continue to walk right and talk right while speaking at a level 1 volume in the halls. Keep cell phones and wireless HEADPHONES and earbuds stored away and out of sight for the entirety of the school day. This is a reminder that gum should be left at home and is not for school. Also, thank you to those who have emailed Mrs. Kinney and me about observed acts of vandalism. It takes our entire school community to build a culture of PRIDE in our school and facilities. Please do not intentionally vandalize our school, and if something accidentally breaks, please report it right away so we can get it fixed.
3. iReady Math testing is today. We will be operating on an alternate bell schedule with an extended Cougar Academy and lunches based on your 3rd-period teacher, just like last Tuesday. Also, the iReady assessment provides valuable data that we use to determine schedules, support, and will also automatically create your IXL Study Plan that all students will be working on in Cougar Academy on Tuesdays and Thursdays each week. Show us what you know and give it your best!
4. We are excited to announce that the Young Authors' Showcase is coming up on October 18th from 9 am - 1 pm at Goodman Middle School. This is an opportunity open to all middle school students, 6th - 8th grade, and will have interactive workshops with local authors, panels on the creative writing process, book sales and signings, and writing activities and creative challenges. Registration is open, and a link was included in our weekly newsletter to families.
5. Cougar Catch-Up is cancelled today, but will be available this Thursday. This is a reminder to all club participants to meet your club advisor in the commons after school.
