Message from Principal Jeri Goebel

Key Peninsula Middle School

Welcome Cougar students and families!! As students, teachers, parents and others go through the effects of the pandemic, we value and appreciate those around us and embrace the beginning of an exciting new school year!!

MATH: Based on our analysis of iReady data at the end of last school year, math will be an area of academic focus to bring students up to mastery of the state standards. We will fill in any gaps and support students in various ways. For students not being served on an IEP and needing much support, they will be placed in a push-in class of regular size, but with two teachers. Students needing less support will be getting extra help in a Cougar Academy class. Students who scored the highest on last year’s iReady test, will be placed in a class to offer acceleration. After each of the three iReady tests, staff will analyze the results and exit students from support or add extra support as needed.

STEM: KPMS will be adding career exploration activities and unique STEM learning to our classes. We believe that middle school students should be starting to look at where they might be headed and have education relatable to the world around them. We will be bringing in outside speakers (via Zoom) and plan integrated units between classes. Fun and excitement for all! KPMS used to be a NASA Explorer school and we want to bring that energy and joy back to our students and community after a crazy year and a half!

Construction: Pictures of the construction progress is on the KPMS website. Construction just began and the focus has been on the groundwork on the outside of the school this past week.

Safety: All schools in the district will be following the guidelines with social distancing. Currently, all students and staff will be wearing masks as a precaution. For contact tracing, students will have assigned seats at lunch time and classes. KPMS parents, staff and students did an amazing job with safety protocols which we know will continue this year! Guidelines change, so please look for updates via the new communication tool, Parent Square. More details coming about setting up your Parent Square account.

Free and Reduced Forms: Forms will be mailed to parents/guardians in a couple weeks. Please return by Friday of the first week. Your student can drop off at the office or give to any teacher. These forms help to qualify for Title funding, grants, College Bound Scholarships and greatly reduced or eliminated school fees for students!

We look to a successful start of a new school year. As we say together every morning, “ KPMS Cougars are respectful, responsible and safe. We are the pride of the peninsula!” Let’s have a great year!

Key Peninsula Announcements and INformation

We will be working on student schedules all summer to have them ready before the start of school. We understand that there are times when students may be able to view their schedules online prior to them being finalized and released. What you see prior to that date may change as we continue working on proper placement.

After September 3, if you have questions regarding your schedule you can reach out to your counselor:

If you are missing a class or were placed in the wrong grade level course,  you may contact your counselor for information on schedule change requests.  You will be notified by email of the status of the change and you should continue to follow your class schedule as shown in your portal until notified.
