1. Good morning, Cougs! Today is Thursday, September 25th. As we continue recognizing and celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month, did you know that Spanish is the second-most spoken language in the United States, and more than 400 million people around the world speak it as their first language.
Today, in recognition of Suicide Prevention Awareness Month, it is important to remember that taking care of your mental health is just as important as taking care of your body. Just like eating healthy and exercising, keeping your body strong, resting, talking about your feelings, and doing things you enjoy keep your mind healthy. Both are important to living a balanced life.
2. Please continue to walk right and talk right while speaking at a level 1 volume in the halls. Keep cell phones and wireless HEADPHONES and earbuds stored away and out of sight for the entirety of the school day. This is a reminder that gum should be left at home and is not for school. Also, thank you to those who have emailed Mrs. Kinney and me about observed acts of vandalism. It takes our entire school community to build a culture of PRIDE in our school and facilities. Please do not intentionally vandalize our school, and if something accidentally breaks, please report it right away so we can get it fixed.
3. Our Cougar Volleyball team put on a strong showing at the jamboree last night. The 7th-grade team took each set to the 11-minute time limit, only losing to Goodman by 3 and tied with Kopachuck. Harbor Ridge had a good server that ran some points, but as soon as we got the ball back, our servers were just as consistent, and we had a comeback. We are excited for the season ahead and the chance to play full games against these teams. Monday, we start the season off at Goodman, game times 3:30 for 8th and 4:30 for 7th. The 8th-grade team played amazingly, scoring a total of 31 points! Our ladies cheered the loudest and clearly had the most fun of any team on the floor! Game balls for Olivia Durkin, who led the cheering with non-stop energy, and for Lilly B for her amazing laser serves!!! Coach Miller was very proud of the way these young ladies attacked the Volleyball. Go Cougs!
4. Cougar Cross Country has its first meet at Sehmel Park starting at 3:30 pm. We are excited to see the results of the hard work and effort that have been put in by our student-athletes so far this year. Go Cougs!
5. This is a reminder that we have our first fire drill of the year tomorrow at 10:45 am. Our emergency drills are designed to ensure we are prepared for an actual emergency, if one happens. Please follow all staff directions, remain at a level 0 volume, and ensure we are prepared and know what to do in case of an emergency.
