Announcements 10/1

1. Good morning, Cougs! Today is Wednesday, October 1st. As we continue recognizing and celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month, did you know Hispanic culture is full of celebrations! Día de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, is a Mexican tradition honoring loved ones with music, food, and colorful art.
2. Please continue to walk right and talk right while speaking at a level 1 volume in the halls. Keep cell phones and wireless HEADPHONES and earbuds stored away and out of sight for the entirety of the school day. Please use your Chromebook for its intended purpose and know that your activity is monitored at the building and district level. Let's go out of our way to display kindness and respect to develop a sense of belonging for ALL!
3. Our Cougar soccer and volleyball teams take on the Falcons of Harbor Ridge. We appreciate all teams' efforts and sportsmanship as they represent Cougar Nation proudly. Also, Cross Country has its second meet of the year tomorrow, starting at 3:30 pm at Sehmel Park. Come on out and cheer on our student athletes. Go Cougs!
4. Attention all Cougars interested in wrestling. Registration is now open, so if you are a 6th, 7th, or 8th-grade student with any interest, please go to our school website to sign up and make sure you have all the necessary forms completed. Wrestling is open to students of all genders, and no prior wrestling experience is required. Go Cougs!
5. Remember that clubs are in full swing. Art club is today, STEM club starts up this Thursday with Mr. Minnery, Board game club is this Thursday, and Cooking Club starts on October 8th. The People of Color Club starts tomorrow, and Drama Club begins next Tuesday. Cougar Catch-Up rolls on every Tuesday and Thursday as well. Remember to get a permission slip signed and returned to the main office for participation in all ASB clubs.
6. We are excited to announce that the Young Authors' Showcase is coming up on October 18th from 9 am - 1 pm at Goodman Middle School. Registration ends tomorrow, and a link was included in our weekly newsletter to families. This is an opportunity open to all middle school students, 6th - 8th grade, and will have interactive workshops with local authors, panels on the creative writing process, book sales and signings, and writing activities and creative challenges.
