Announcements 10/2

1. Good morning, Cougs! Today is October 2nd. As we continue recognizing and celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month, did you know that in soccer/football, many of the world’s greatest players are Hispanic, like Lionel Messi from Argentina and Marta from Brazil. As we begin marching into the month of October, we recognize Bullying Prevention and Awareness Month and Disability History & Awareness Month. We will take time to continue to communicate the important characteristics of being an Upstander and to honor, respect, and celebrate people with disabilities while building understanding across our school community. This month and every month moving forward, let’s work together to make our school a place where everyone feels safe, included, and respected. Remember to be an Upstander! Being an upstander means speaking up when you see bullying. Even a simple ‘That’s not okay’ can make a big difference.
2. Please continue to walk right and talk right while speaking at a level 1 volume in the halls. Keep cell phones and wireless HEADPHONES and earbuds stored away and out of sight for the entirety of the school day. Please use your Chromebook for its intended purpose and know that your activity is monitored at the building and district level. Let's go out of our way to display kindness and respect to develop a sense of belonging for ALL!
3. Our Cougar soccer and volleyball teams took on the Falcons of Harbor Ridge. Boys' soccer had a super effort by all team members, with Isaac Sink and Deklin Madsen each scoring a hat trick. Final score 6-2 for KPMS. 7th-grade team also gave great effort and continues to improve each week, but came up short in the loss. Girls' volleyball fought hard yesterday. The 8th-grade team lost the key match in overtime, 22 to 20. They displayed both great sportsmanship AND amazing volleyball skills - great job Lady Cougars! Cross Country has its second meet of the year tomorrow, starting at 3:30 pm at Sehmel Park. Come on out and cheer on our student athletes. Go Cougs!
4. Attention all Cougars interested in wrestling. Registration is now open, so if you are a 6th, 7th, or 8th-grade student with any interest, please go to our school website to sign up and make sure you have all the necessary forms completed. Wrestling is open to students of all genders, and no prior wrestling experience is required. Go Cougs!
5. Remember that clubs are in full swing. Art club is today, STEM club starts up this Thursday with Mr. Minnery, Board game club is this Thursday, and Cooking Club starts on October 8th. The People of Color Club starts tomorrow, and Drama Club begins next Tuesday. Cougar Catch-Up rolls on every Tuesday and Thursday as well. Remember to get a permission slip signed and returned to the main office for participation in all ASB clubs.
6. Remember that today is the KPMS PTSA El Sombrero Takeover. Talk your family into dining at El Sombrero tonight and let your server know that you are there in support of KPMS! A portion of the money spent goes to support the amazing things that our PTSA does for KPMS students, staff, and families all year long.
7. IXL shoutout goes to Brianna Angel Fuenes for being the top student of September. She has completed 97 questions and continues to show great effort and engagement in her IXL study plan. Great work, Brianna! Also, remember you can work on your study plan outside of school as well. Keep engaging to build your math and reading knowledge and fill skill gaps that will help you be successful when in class.
8. Remember that every Friday is Cougar Pride Day. Wear your Red, White, and Grey and show off that Cougar Pride. If you missed the September window to purchase Cougar Spirit Wear, we will open up the online store again in November, so don't fret.
