Announcements 10/7

1. Good morning, Cougs! Today is Tuesday, October 7th. As we continue recognizing and celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month, it is important to remember that Hispanic Heritage Month is about community. It reminds us how important it is to celebrate diversity and recognize the contributions of all cultures. As we begin marching into the month of October, we recognize Bullying Prevention and Awareness and Disability History & Awareness Month. We will take time to continue to communicate the important characteristics of being an Upstander and to honor, respect, and celebrate people with disabilities while building understanding across our school community. It's important to remember that an upstander doesn’t laugh at mean jokes. Instead, they change the subject or let others know it’s not funny. It takes our whole school community, working together, to ensure everyone feels included and that they belong.
2. Please continue to walk right and talk right while speaking at a level 1 volume in the halls. Keep cell phones and wireless HEADPHONES and earbuds stored away and out of sight for the entirety of the school day. Please use your Chromebook for its intended purpose and know that your activity is monitored at the building and district level. Let's go out of our way to display kindness and respect to develop a sense of belonging for ALL!
3. This week in Cougar Academy, all students will have the opportunity to complete the KPMS Sense of Belonging survey for the month of September. It is a short 5-question survey that will take less than 5 minutes. Please complete this so we can continue to capture your voice as students and develop strategies to ensure that ALL students feel seen, safe, and supported.
4. Yesterday, our volleyball and soccer teams took on the Coyotes of Kopachuck. All teams showed amazing effort, grit, and sportsmanship, and represented Cougar Nation proud. 7th-grade Volleyball improved in their ability to work together, with many volleys ending in attacks, with Essie, Vada, Michelle, and Trinity leading the way. The top servers of the game were Vada with 10 and Maggie with 9. Great Job Cougs! We take on the road runners of Goodman on Wednesday in our gym, 7th grade at 3:30, 8th grade at 4:30. We are excited to cheer on and celebrate so much growth during the second half of the season. Go Cougs!
5. ASB Updates
a. As mentioned at our last ASB meeting, we are collecting ideas for our spirit days, which will take place at the end of each quarter this year. In your grade level Schoology, you will find our Spirit Days Survey. Please share your ideas by filling out that form. Our first Spirit Week here at KPMS will take place in November.
b. Do you have an interest in joining this year's ASB as a grade-level representative? Applications will be available in the office this Friday either before school or during lunch. Completed applications will be due October 17th, and voting for grade level reps will occur at the end of the month. There is room for 2 per grade level to join our current ASB officers. Any questions, please see Mrs. Dykman or Mrs. Welander.
6. Picture retakes are tomorrow. You have the opportunity to get your picture taken during lunches in the library. This is only for students who missed the original picture day or are getting a retake.
