Announcements 11/7

1. Good morning, Cougs! Today is Friday, November 7th. We continue marching into Native American and Alaska Native Heritage Month. This is a time to celebrate the rich histories, cultures, and contributions of Indigenous peoples across the United States. Today, we honor Native American veterans. Native people have served in the U.S. Armed Forces at higher rates per capita than any other group, showing deep dedication to protecting their communities and the nation.
2. We have our first formal assembly of the year on Monday, in honor of Veterans Day. We are excited to recognize and celebrate our Veterans and their service to our country. Monday's assembly will take place at the end of 1st period, and there is no Cougar Academy. As this is a formal assembly, it is important to remember that the expectations are to engage fully with whoever is speaking at the podium, remain seated and at a level 0 volume unless asked to stand. We show respect to the Veterans in our community by the way we conduct ourselves at this assembly, as many of the Veterans from our community will be in attendance.
3. We want to continue to review and highlight a few specific expectations.
a. Backpacks, cinch bags, purses, etc., are to be stored in your locker. This should be a daily habit. Teachers, thank you for remaining consistent with this building commitment, and thank you to students for exhibiting expected behavior and having just your binder and Chromebook in class.
b. Please chew gum outside of school. Scraping gum from furniture or the floor takes extra time and means that routine cleaning can't happen efficiently.
c. Please clean up after yourself at breakfast and lunch. It is your responsibility to throw your garbage away and clean up spills or messes that may have occurred.
d. Please charge your Chromebook nightly and bring your fully charged Chromebook to class daily.
e. Please remember that every student has the right to a free, public education, free from disruptions/distractions of learning and instruction.
f. Please respect and follow staff directions in the moment, and if you'd like to follow up to share perspective or context, it should be done at the end of class, but not during instruction.
Our student advisory council, your peers, along with staff, desire a school community we can take PRIDE in, and it takes each one of us to contribute to a safe, respectful, and inclusive school and classroom culture. Remember that words matter and character counts!
4. Remember that attendance matters! We will be celebrating the 7th-grade class who had the highest average attendance rate for Quarter 1 this morning during Cougar Academy. Teachers, please take attendance and bring your 7th-grade CA students to the commons to celebrate.
