Announcements 2/9

1. Good morning, Cougs! Today is Monday, February 9th. As we lean into Black History Month, remember this is a time to recognize, honor, and celebrate the history, culture, and contributions of Black Americans. Did you know that at NASA, mathematicians Katherine Johnson, Dorothy Vaughan, and Mary Jackson helped send astronauts into space? Their problem-solving skills changed science and history forever.
2. Please take a moment to reflect and remember that words hold power. KPMS is a hate-free environment, and any form of discriminatory language or behavior will not be tolerated and will result in corrective action. Please go out of your way to be an upstander and address or report discriminatory language or behavior if you witness it. It takes our entire school community to stand up to discrimination and to develop a safe and inclusive culture where everyone has the opportunity to succeed.
3. We will start the week with the student store open at lunch and are hopeful students will continue following lunch expectations by remaining seated at a level 1 volume, throwing garbage away and being responsible for cleaning up any accidental spills, exhibiting expected behavior during honor time, and transitioning to class after lunch by walking to the right and talking at a level 1 volume. This is also a reminder that chromebooks are the property of the Peninsula School District and acts of destruction or vandalism come with a cost and corrective action. Please exhibit expected behavior and remind your peers show respect for our learning materials, common spaces, and school environment. We believe in you!
4. This week is CTE Teacher Appreciation Week. A huge shoutout to Mr. Minnery and Mr. Alsin for all of the work they do to support the CTE program at KPMS and within the Peninsula School District. We are grateful for their service and support of our school community.
5. The KPMS Jazz Band is participating and competing in the COMBEA Jazz Festival tomorrow. We send them off with our full support and know they will represent Cougar Nation proudly!
6. The Lady Cougars have their final game of the regular season tomorrow at Harbor Ridge. The end-of-season district tournament will be this Thursday, starting at 5pm at Peninsula High School. Come on out and cheer on the Lady Cougs!
7. Cougar Nation wants to shoutout the Seattle Seahawks. We are grateful for such an amazing season and getting to watch the way this team came together toward a common goal, displayed perseverance, and a never-give-up attitude all season long. The Hawks are Super Bowl Champions!
