Announcements 2/10

1. Good morning, Cougs! Today is Tuesday, February 10th. As we lean into Black History Month, remember this is a time to recognize, honor, and celebrate the history, culture, and contributions of Black Americans. Did you know that Jackie Robinson broke Major League Baseball’s color barrier in 1947? He faced discrimination with courage and dignity, helping open doors for future athletes.
2. Please take a moment to reflect and remember that words hold power. KPMS is a hate-free environment, and any form of discriminatory language or behavior will not be tolerated and will result in corrective action. Please go out of your way to be an upstander and address or report discriminatory language or behavior if you witness it. It takes our entire school community to stand up to discrimination and to develop a safe and inclusive culture where everyone has the opportunity to succeed.
3. The student store is open at lunch, and we are hopeful students will continue following lunch expectations by remaining seated at a level 1 volume, throwing garbage away and being responsible for cleaning up any accidental spills, exhibiting expected behavior during honor time, and transitioning to class after lunch by walking to the right and talking at a level 1 volume. This is also a reminder that chromebooks are the property of the Peninsula School District, and acts of destruction or vandalism come with a cost and corrective action. Please exhibit expected behavior and remind your peers show respect for our learning materials, common spaces, and school environment. We believe in you!
4. A huge shoutout and congratulations to all the musicians who participated in last Saturday's Solo and Ensemble Festival at PHS. KPMS had THE MOST middle school entries of any school. They also came away with 11 Superior Ratings and 5 Excellent Ratings! In addition to KPMS' great success, many former KPMS and current PHS musicians made Solo/Ensemble ALL-STATE! Music is strong here on the Peninsula!
5. The Lady Cougars have their final game of the regular season today at Harbor Ridge. The end-of-season district tournament will be this Thursday, starting at 5 pm at Peninsula High School. Also, coach Shana is inviting all girls interested in learning more about the basketball program to an open practice tomorrow. This is a great way to meet the coaches, players, and get a taste of Cougar basketball. Remember that you will need a ride home at 4:30 pm if you are going to stay after. Please meet the team in the gym after school if you are going to attend.
6. Unfortunately, Valenpops are no longer for sale during honor time, however they are available online. $1.00 Valenpops can still be purchased through the bookkeeper's link on the KPMS website. Last chance to purchase a sweet treat for someone in our KPMS community is Wednesday night. You can purchase your tickets to Thursday's Social during lunches and on Thursday morning. Remember that tickets will not be sold at the door.
