Announcements 2/12

1. Good morning, Cougs! Today is Thursday, February 12th. As we lean into Black History Month, remember this is a time to recognize, honor, and celebrate the history, culture, and contributions of Black Americans. Did you know that Garrett Morgan invented the modern traffic signal and a safety hood that became the gas mask? His ideas helped save lives and improve everyday safety.
2. Please take a moment to reflect and remember that words hold power. KPMS is a hate-free environment and any form of discriminatory language or behavior will not be tolerated and will result in corrective action. Please go out of your way to be an upstander and address or report discriminatory language or behavior if you witness it. It takes our entire school community to stand up to discrimination and to develop a safe and inclusive culture where everyone has the opportunity to succeed.
3. The student store is _________ at lunch and we are hopeful students will continue following lunch expectations by remaining seated at a level 1 volume, throwing garbage away and being responsible for cleaning up any accidental spills, exhibiting expected behavior during honor time, and transitioning to class after lunch by walking to the right and talking at a level 1 volume. This is also a reminder that chromebooks are the property of the Peninsula School District and acts of destruction or vandalism come with a cost and corrective action. Keep your cell phones and wireless headphones or earbuds away and out of sight. Find a different decoration for your neck if you've been using your headphones as a necklace. Please exhibit expected behavior and remind your peers to show respect for our learning materials, common spaces, and school expectations. We believe in you!
4. The Lady Cougars will be participating in the end-of-season tournament this evening at PHS. The tourney starts at 5pm, and we send our Lady Cougs off with our pride and support. Go Cougs!
5. Woohoo! We just got Gabo's score sheet from his performance at the Solo Vocal Festival. He scored a Superior rating! A solid 1 from the judge. Great job, Gabo...we are so proud of you!
6. This is a reminder that ticket sales for today's social are over, and you may not purchase tickets at the door. If you have not purchased a ticket, you must head home after school. Please know that expected behavior is connected to your entry and being able to remain at the social. Please put your backpacks in your lockers after school and line up in an orderly fashion outside the main entrance. Have a wonderful time, and thank you to Mrs. Dykman, Mrs. Welander, and all staff and students who have planned this time together.
