Announcements 4/21

1. Good morning, Cougs! Today is Tuesday, April 21st. We continue to honor the strength, resilience, and sacrifices of students whose families serve in the military. At our school, we all share the responsibility of making others feel welcome. Let’s take time to include and support our military-connected peers by being a good friend and doing the right thing, even when it’s not easy. Show integrity by including others and standing up for those who need support. Remember that Purple Up Day is this Friday, so wear your purple wardrobe in support of our amazing students of military families.
2. Please continue to walk right and talk right while keeping to a level 1 volume and staying within your personal bubble. The student store is open today so keep taking responsibility for keeping the cafeteria clean, socializing at a level 1 volume, staying seated until released for honor time, and transitioning from honor time to class at a level 1 volume. Also, please continue to keep your cell phones and wireless headphones/earbuds stored away. Make it happen, Cougs!
3. This week, KPMS and PSD recognize Library Staff Recognition Week and are so grateful for the amazing and dedicated work Mrs. Gilman does to support students, staff, and families each and every day. Take a moment this week to thank Mrs. Gilman for the support she provides and the way she goes above and beyond to serve our school community.
4. Remember that during ASB election season, KPMS and PHS are looking for positive school leaders. Interested 6th and 7th-graders can apply for 26/27 KPMS ASB President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer. Current 8th graders can apply to be PHS Senators for the 26/27 school year. If you want to lead, have a voice, and represent your class, applications are available in the main office starting today!
5. The Peninsula School District is holding a Special Olympics Unified Soccer Event on Saturday, May 2nd at Peninsula High School's Roy Anderson Field. Unified Athletics is an inclusive program from Special Olympics that joins people with intellectual disabilities (athletes) and without disabilities (partners) on the same team. Teams are composed of similar ages and abilities, focusing on friendship, equality, and competition to foster inclusion. All of our PSD middle schools and high schools are invited to participate in leadership and service for this event. Some of the responsibilities include greeting teams as they arrive, participating in cheering sections, assisting with set-up and clean-up, and helping decorate the stadium to build a fun, inclusive atmosphere. There is a short survey/application in the grade-level Schoology pages if you are interested in supporting this amazing event.
6. Testing season is upon us and we will take the final iReady Reading assessment today and the final Math assessment next Tuesday. Please give your absolute best and show the growth you've made so far this year. Remember that we use this data to make scheduling decisions for next year regarding advanced placement and support classes to ensure students are placed correctly. The more accurate the data, the more likely your schedule will accurately reflect where you should be as we create your 26/27 school year schedule.
7. Lastly, this is a reminder that POC is canceled today.
