Announcements 4/27

1. Good morning, Cougs...today is Monday, April 27th. We continue to recognize the strength, resilience, and sacrifices of students whose families serve in the military. Let’s continue to show integrity by supporting our students of military families and one another by doing what is right, even when nobody is watching.
2. Please continue to walk right and talk right while keeping to a level 1 volume and staying within your personal bubble. The student store is open today so continue to take responsibility for keeping the cafeteria clean, socializing at a level 1 volume, staying seated until released for honor time, and transitioning from honor time to class at a level 1 volume. Also, please continue to keep your cell phones and wireless headphones/earbuds stored away. Make it happen, Cougs!
3. This week, we pause and recognize Administrative Professionals Week. Mrs. Trivette and Mrs. Jaime pour their heart and soul into their daily work and go above and beyond in supporting our school community each and every day. We are grateful for their passion and dedication. Take a moment this week to thank them for their service to students, staff, and families.
4. The Peninsula School District is holding a Special Olympics Unified Soccer Event on Saturday, May 2nd, at Peninsula High School's Roy Anderson Field. Unified Athletics is an inclusive program from Special Olympics that joins people with and without intellectual disabilities. The focus is on friendship, equality, and competition to foster inclusion. We are looking for students interested in greeting teams as they arrive, participating in cheering sections, assisting with set-up and clean-up, and helping decorate the stadium to build a fun, inclusive atmosphere. There is a short survey/application that is actually now in grade level schoology pages if you are interested in supporting this amazing event.
5. The pies have been delivered, and we are moving on to the delivery of ice cream for all next week. The plan is to have free ice cream available this Wednesday, April 29th, during lunch. We will have popsicles available as well for those with dairy allergies. Tables will be set up by last name for your lunch table to retrieve your frosty reward after being dismissed by a staff member.
6. We will be holding our 8th-grade level assembly in the commons right after announcements. We will review expectations, go over the eligibility requirements for participation in the end-of-year events, and celebrate with a banner photo as the Peninsula School District received the award and recognition of being named a Top 25 school district for academic achievement. Be proud of the work you are doing in contributing to this prestigious award and continue showing your brilliance throughout the testing season.
7. Speaking of testing, we will take the final iReady math assessment tomorrow in CA. Please give your absolute best, get a good night of sleep, and bring your fully charged Chromebook to be fully prepared to show the growth you've made so far this year. Remember that we use this data to make scheduling decisions for next year regarding advanced placement and support classes to ensure students are placed correctly. The more accurate the data, the more likely your schedule will accurately reflect where you should be as we create your 26/27 school year schedule. The data is pouring in from last week, and we are so proud to see so many students showing tons of growth as compared to their performance in the fall.
