Welcome to this month’s update from the Peninsula School District Performance Drone Team! Our student pilots continue to push the boundaries of creativity, engineering, and teamwork as they design, program, and perform with precision drones. From honing flight maneuvers to collaborating on synchronized routines, the team exemplifies innovation in action.

This month, we’re highlighting recent achievements, upcoming events, and ways our students are learning leadership and STEM skills that extend far beyond the flight field.

PSD Drone team Celebrates the Seahawks Win!

A 200-Drone Tribute to the Seahawks’ Super Bowl Win
Drone lights form the words "WAY TO GO SEAHAWKS!" against a dark night sky.
When the clock hit zero and the Seattle Seahawks secured their Super Bowl victory, the city erupted sunday night (Feb 8th). While car horns blared and fireworks popped over the entire region, the PSD Drone Team started to plan a different kind of tribute. Armed with 200 drones Wednesday night (as people were returning home from a Seattle parade like no other), our team was ready to paint a victory lap directly onto the night sky.

As twilight settled, the drones lifted off in perfect unison, humming like a massive hive. One moment the sky was empty, and the next, the swarm swirled into a shout out standing over a 100 feet tall saying "Way to go Seahawks". The animation was a custom-built to celebrate this momentous win high above our Gig Harbor neighborhoods.

For the community members who caught the show, it was a moment of pure magic. Cars safely pulled over on the adjacent roads, and neighbors gathered on the sidewalks, gazing upward in awe. In the midst of the chaotic post-game celebrations, this was a moment of synchronized beauty.

"It was such a cool surprise," said one local resident who watched from the sidelines.

Thank you for an amazing season! Go Hawks!

Monthly Spotlight on a Drone Team Member

Meet Zachary Schley

Hi, My name is Zachary Schley, and I am a senior and the founding student of the Peninsula School District Performance Drone Program. I don’t know exactly what I want to do after high school yet, but I am interested in exploring technology, creativity, and leadership through hands-on experiences.

I joined the drone team to help build the program from the ground up and be part of large-scale drone shows. I have helped set up shows, take photos and videos, and support social media for the program. I am thrilled to now be honing my craft in animation for the team. Outside of the team, I enjoy photography, creative projects, and working with others.
